Well first of all, it’s great that you are open to learning more about Christianity! I would definitely encourage you to find a friend you can go to church with and see if you feel good there. (But remember, not every church is for everyone. Give a few a try).
How about I give a briefing on the gospel? That way you’ll know exactly what Christianity is all about.
As humans, we are naturally sinners.
“We are all infected and impure with sin.” Isaiah 64:6
How can we know this to be true? Look at small children. Most people don’t TEACH their children to fight and hit and scream when they don’t get their way. That is a part of our natural make up.
This sin keeps us from Heaven. How can we sit beside the throne of God when we are unholy? And no matter what we do, we cannot be perfect like the Lord. I know I certainly can’t be.
So God had mercy on us. He didn’t want us all to suffer. He wants us to BE WITH HIM. Think about that a minute. God created us, loves us, and wants us to desire Him.
But think about it logically. Something has to be done about that sin. We can’t just go to Heaven and bask in the Lord’s glory while we are still unclean. It just doesn’t make sense. So God decided there needed to be a sacrifice made to atone for our sins. But He couldn’t sacrifice just anything.
So he sent himself- holy and pure-in the form of man, as Jesus Christ, His son. Why did He have to be a man?
“Jesus had to enter into every detail of human life. Then, when he came before God as high priest to get rid of the people’s sins, he would have already experienced it all himself- all the pain, all the testing- and would be able to help where help is needed.” Hebrews 3:17-18
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are- yet was without sin.” Hebrews 4:15
So Jesus experienced what’s it’s like to walk on the earth so that he could adequately sacrifice himself for our sins.
And he did. He died on the cross, bearing the weight of all the sin of the world.
Do you hear that? That’s your sin, my sin. He took it all. He took every unclean, wrong thing you and I ever did and carried on His shoulders as he hung there in pain, breathing his last breath.
He made us clean. He took the sin so that we can live in Heaven with God forever, washed pure white again.
So what does this mean for us??? Pay close attention to these verses…
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
If you believe that God is the Creator and Jesus is His son who died for your sins and was raised again, you will be SAVED. If you believe and confess and trust God and accept Him into your heart, He will put His Spirit in you and one day you will get to live in Heaven with Him forever.
And before I close, this is important…
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift from God.” Ephesians 2:8
It is through grace ALONE that you are saved. Meaning, your works- aka your “good deeds” or “bad sins”- have NO bearing on your salvation. Once you are saved, you are saved no matter what you do or how much you sin. Now of course you should try to live a holy life, but know that no matter WHAT YOU DO, you are forever saved by the loving power of God.
As for science, I believe it. The Bible says that God created the world, but now HOW He created it. It says that God created the earth in seven days. But what is seven days to God? 2 Peter 3:8 says, “For the Lord a days is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like a day.” God is outside of time. Evolution could very well have been a part of Creation, and I feel the same way about other scientific facts.
I hope this helped, and I’m sorry it was long. I’m just passionate about this! :) If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, anon or not.
